Antioxidant Activity of Water-Soluble Chitosan with Althaea rosea Cavanil Extract

|
In this study, we examined the antioxidant activity of water-soluble chitosan (WSC) with the extracts obtained from Althaea rosea Cavanil. This study determined DPPH radical scavenging activity and ABTS radical scavenging activity of three kinds of WSCs added with three different types of Althaea rosea Cavanil extracts according to extraction time (9, 18, 27 hours). The total polyphenol compounds were 2.1 mg GAE/g, 3.2 mg GAE/g, 4.5 mg in 9 hour, 18 hour and 27 hour extract respectively. Among the extracts from Althaea rosea Cavanil, 27 hour extracts showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activitiy. The ABTS radical scavenging activity was the highest at 18 hour. But the most distinct synergy effect for DPPH appeared at 9 hour. In the case of ABTS, 27 hour showed the synergy most distinctly.
